You're in the Veluwe, so a trip to the most beautiful nature park in the Netherlands is a no-brainer. Explore the park on one of the free rental bikes available at the entrance to De Hoge Veluwe National Park. Cycle through vast heathlands, forests and sand drifts and stop for a picnic in the countryside. If you're lucky, you might spot a deer or wild boar. 2. Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo)
Are you an art lover? Then get your fill at the Kröller-Müller Museum. Here you will find the second-largest collection of Van Gogh’s in the world. You will come face to face with masterpieces like the potato eaters or the sunflowers. The museum also has works by Mondrian, Picasso, Monet and others. The surrounding sculpture garden is also a must, with Jardin d’émail as the absolute eye-catcher. Not only can you touch this work of art, you can stand and walk on it yourself. A unique experience!

3. Burgers’ Zoo (Arnhem)
From penguins to elephants and from gorillas to wallabies, Burgers' Zoo takes you on a journey around the world through the animal kingdom. What makes this zoo special is that you can see many animals in their natural habitat. In Burgers Rimba, you find yourself in a tropical rainforest. Here you can spot Malaysian bears and golden-cheeked gibbons, for example. A little later, in Burgers‘ Ocean, you can walk through a tropical coral reef aquarium containing eight million litres of water and come face to face with leopard sharks or spotted eagle rays.

4. Paleis het Loo (Apeldoorn)
Feel like a king or queen for a day at Paleis Het Loo. Discover how the House of Orange lived and breathed. One moment you'll be standing in William of Orange's bedroom, the next in Prince Bernhard's salon or among Beatrix's royal cars. Beneath the 17th-century palace, you will find an exhibition on the history of the Dutch royal family. Feeling hungry? Have lunch in the ballroom, where the horses of Stadtholder William III once stood and Wilhelmina watched films. The baroque palace gardens, with their fountains and statues, are also worth seeing. A touch of Versailles in the polder!

5. Nederlands Openluchtmuseum (Arnhem)
At the Dutch Open Air Museum, you can travel back in time for a day. You will find more than 100 historic buildings, such as old farms, workers' houses and mills. You can view them inside and out, and in the workshops, craftsmen bring the professions of yesteryear to life. For example, watch the blacksmith at work or learn old crafts yourself in the new Craft Workshop. A real family outing! Also fun: in the Dutch Open Air Museum you will find the Canon of the Netherlands: an interactive exhibition with games, videos and animations about the most important events and people in our national history.

6. Amerongen castle
Amerongen Castle is perhaps one of the most beautiful castles in the Netherlands. It was built in the seventeenth century and is surrounded by a moat and a romantic castle garden. Inside, you will find a fine historical interior, with lots of antique furniture and an impressive aristocratic library. You will experience how the rich and famous of the past lived. Did you know that the German Emperor Wilhelm I lived in this castle for a while? Tip: combine a visit to the castle with a tour of Amerongen and, in spring, take the ferry across the Nederrine to buy fresh fruit in the Betuwe. 7. Sand sculpture festival (Garderen)
Art made of sand? Yes, it's possible. Garderen has the largest collection of sand sculptures in the Netherlands. There are more than 100! Every year, the sand sculpture festival has a different theme. In 2025, the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam. For years, the sand sculpture festival has been one of the most popular and highly rated excursions in Gelderland.
