Craft speciality beer from the Bijlmer
As you can see, Kleiburg beer lives up to its name as a special beer. And that has everything to do with the special place where it comes from: the Bijlmer. This multicultural Amsterdam neighbourhood is home to around 90,000 people of no fewer than 150 different nationalities.
In the middle of this busy neighbourhood, you will find a special place. A place of silence and reflection. Welcome to the Kleiklooster! Before you start thinking of monks in traditional habits, this is a monastery 2.0. The monastery residents live in the heart of society and share their lives with fellow city dwellers who could use a helping hand. There are special guest rooms for people who need to catch their breath.
Brewed in a monastery brewery
The residents of the Kleiklooster are inspired in their daily lives by centuries-old monastery traditions. Brewing beer is one of those traditions. This takes place in the nearby brewery, where monastery beer is brewed using traditional methods. Malting, mashing, boiling, fermenting and bottling: it is modern monastic work that is still largely done by hand.
Fun fact: most beers you can buy in the supermarket are filtered: the brewer removes the yeast from the beer before it goes into the bottle. This makes the beer look clear when you pour it and ensures it always tastes the same. At the Kleiburg brewery, however, they bottle the beer with yeast. This allows Kleiburg beer to continue to develop in the bottle, deepening its flavour.
A monastery beer for every occasion
Let's take another look at one of those craft beers. Time to get acquainted with Sicilian White. Where most white beers have a hint of lemon, this fresh white beer from Kleiburg has notes of orange. Just that little bit different!
The Kleiburg brewers also go off the beaten track with their Tripel. You might expect a somewhat heavier, spicier beer. But Kleiburg combines that with the fresh character of an India Pale Ale (IPA). Delicious with a snack!
With eight craft beers, there is a Kleiburg beer for every season and every occasion. Can't choose? No problem! Just go for a tasting platter. We will serve you a selection of four beers in tasting glasses and tasty bites. You can order this beer tasting for two people in the bistro or on the terrace.
